Fernwood

Fernwood

Norfolk, CT

The garden was originally designed when the house was built in 1908. Both are in the English Arts & Crafts style. The garden was an early design by Marian Coffin. We have an early working plan dated 1908, as well as photographs of the garden that were published in the magazine Country Life in America in 1922. Virtually everything had been lost and we based our re-creation on the original layout, but we have taken some liberties. It appears that the large double border was never executed, but we have attempted one, in addition to reinstalling the smaller square upper part of the garden.
