THE GARDEN CONSERVANCY NORTHWEST NETWORK ANNOUNCES THE SPRING WORKSHOP AND GENERAL MEETING
Developed for staff, board members and volunteers from public gardens

Registration opens at 9:00am

BUILDING A STRONG BOARD

Workshop presentation:

Virginia (Ginny) D. Lang of Lang Consulting will be leading the discussion on how to strengthen your organization’s board. She has worked in the corporate sector and the nonprofit community for about thirty years. She specializes in training and development for nonprofit organizations and their board members. She helps them develop skills in communication, fundraising, outreach, staff and board development, and volunteer management. She has worked as a trainer with the Washington Nonprofits Training Institute and served on the Steering Committee for the Whatcom Council of Nonprofits among other things.

Ginny Lang will focus on three important processes which will strengthen your organization’s ability to realize its mission. Board responsibility is the first topic to be addressed and this includes discussion of both collective and individual responsibility of board members for an organization to its community, and to the state and federal government. Secondly, Lang will lead a discussion on board composition and development. She will address how your organization can recruit, develop, and thank its board members. Lastly Lang will address how to engage the board in an important board responsibility, fundraising. After each of these presentations, there will be group discussions by workshop attendees of the practices of their organizations - which practices work and do not work well for them.

In the afternoon, following the workshop there will a docent led tour of the Dunn Gardens.
