Garden Masters: Historic Art and Gardens in Wisconsin—the Chipstone Foundation - SOLD OUT

The Chipstone Foundation

Sat, Aug 28, 2021

The Chipstone Foundation maintains and preserves an extraordinary collection of fine early American furniture, historical prints, and early English and American ceramics initially assembled by Stanley and Polly Stone. Set on a breathtaking property overlooking Lake Michigan, the collection (open to visitors by appointment only) is contained in a historic Colonial Revival house designed by Andrew Hepburn of the Boston firm Shaw & Hepburn, which oversaw the restoration of Colonial Williamsburg. The exquisite twelve-acre grounds contain an arboretum of significant trees, meticulously clipped yew hedges, a rose garden, and perennial borders. Together, the art and gardens paint a holistic portrait of the lives of two of Wisconsin’s most significant collectors.

Join Jonathan Prown, executive director and chief curator of Chipstone Foundation, and David Knox, board chair, tree expert, collector (and Open Days host!), for a tour of this extraordinary property and its collections. Participants in all three intimate tours are invited to gather for a reception featuring hors d’oeuvres and a tasting of local Wisconsin wine presented by Spirits of Norway Vineyard on the terrace overlooking the rose garden and Lake Michigan.

Presented in partnership with the Milwaukee Art Museum Garden Club.
