Fergus Garrett was appointed in 1993 as head gardener of Great Dixter by renowned gardener and garden writer Christopher Lloyd, Fergus continues to keep the garden constantly changing throughout the seasons by experimenting with new plants and plant combinations. He shares his knowledge through student and volunteer programs at Dixter and through worldwide lectures.

Fergus is keen on plant communities in the wild, especially plants native to Turkey. His honors include the Royal Horticultural Society Associate of Honor (2008) and the Royal Horticultural Society's Veitch Memorial Medal (2015).
