Lakeside Garden

A native woodland overlooking the lake at the Indian Trail Club was transformed into gardens of grasses, hydrangea trees, roses, and displays of changing perennials and seasonal annuals. The beautiful annuals and perennials are interspersed between trees and bushes including azaleas, boxwood, spirea, and blue spruce among others. The yard slopes down to the lake. The right side is lined with red everblooming roses that bloom all summer into the fall or first frost. There is a wonderful garden on the right with peonies, lilies, irises, dahlia, foxglove, astilbes, azaleas, sage, lavender, and roses. The other side of the garden consists of a pool surrounded by begonias, hydrangea bushes and trees, and several rose of Sharon bushes, salvia, and coreopsis. As you walk up the stairs on the right side, golden halon grasses surround a crab apple tree and there are ferns, daylilies, hostas, and hydrangeas, cornflowers, peonies—perennials in that garden. Pink mandevilla encircle the stair railing, creating a stunning path to the upper deck by summer's end. Hibiscus and lilies that I winter in my sunroom are in pots against the house. In the fall, the backyard features tropical variegated croton and tropical Cordyline ti plants and fire shrubs interspersed. The entire backyard is fenced. In the spring, for more than 25 years, the front of the house has featured 2,000 tulips. When the tulips fade, vinca plants surrounded by boxwoods and grasses of various heights are prominent. During the isolation and scare of COVID-19, we were nurtured by nature while enjoying the beauty and serenity of this wonderful garden.
