About

Our property is a heavily wooded acre and a half comprising one large pond, three small ponds, and two streams. The main area on which our house is situated is ringed with 12- to 15-foot rhododendrons and other flowering shrubs. The terrain was re-landscaped over time to make it both lawn-less and deer resistant, with many varieties of plants. A recently added feature is a shade and fern garden in the front woods that provides a lush setting surrounding a stone patio used for bird-watching and relaxation. There is also a nature trail that meanders from the top of the front woods and ultimately runs parallel to the 75-foot stream and waterfall that ends by the front door. Behind the house are two ponds, the largest of which is densely surrounded by trees and ornamental grasses and highlighted by a Japanese red maple that drapes over a waterfall at the bottom of a 40-foot stream emerging from the woods. In addition, our woodland garden is a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat. The property abounds with wild turkey, deer, a wide variety of birds, and the occasional fox. The landscape design was developed with serenity, meditation, and harmony in mind.

This garden’s estimated size is 1 acre.
