About
“Do you think it is a monastery?” Two people on the sidewalk could be heard wondering what lay beyond the ficus hedge. My husband and I smiled. It was the perfect complement. Our intention had been to create a serene sanctuary in the desert.
As you enter the front gate, there are two troughs on either side that have been turned into fountains. The sound of water sets a tranquil tone and the date palms above provide cover from the sun. A path leads to the right and another leads to the left. They call out to explore what is beyond. The garden is divided into “rooms” providing privacy for guests and new experiences as one moves through the dining area to the pool to the bocce court. Yucca rostrata, locally grown olive trees, rosemary, Texas Ranger, and Plumeria are planted throughout.
While this garden is not part of a monastery, at its best it offers a peaceful retreat.
This garden’s estimated size is 3/4 acre.
This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: There are gravel paths throughout the garden along with steps and stone paving.
