We wanted to install a garden that looked as if it had been planted when the house was built in 1901. The entire property presented a real challenge of a steep 30- foot drop from the house to the garden’s end.

To construct an elegant way to move through the grounds, we carefully designed multi-level stone patios and easy-access stairways to guide you down to the fountain. We chose a most unexpected plan that takes advantage of the dramatic views of the river, hills, and sunsets.

By turning the garden on its axis, we created the illusion of a massive property with grand, sweeping lawns; long, flowing hydrangea and hornbeam hedges; and architectural boxwood balls.

Our fountain and hornbeam curve are the highlights of this quiet garden. Versailles on Hudson offers ever-changing vistas as you walk around the property. From the upper and lower patios, the grand porch, the four staircases, to the long lawns and the bubbling fountain, this special garden always delights and soothes the soul.

This garden's estimated size is 0.5 acre.

This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: Please note that this garden has multiple stairs and levels to navigate. The 2 patios have several steps before traversing four staircases to get to the bottom of the property. The garden can be easily viewed from the 2 patios and porches if someone does not wish to walk up and down stairs.
