The Kowalczyk Friendship Garden

Glen Ellyn, IL

The Garden Conservancy Preservation Partner Garden

About

The Kowalczyk garden has been a labor of love since 1993. Starting with a blank ½ acre slate, wishful thinking and plant contributions from many, many friends, it’s grown through the year into a peaceful sanctuary. Find a diverse selection of perennials, grasses, shrubs, annuals, fruits, vegetables and pockets of whimsy. All homeowner designed and cared for. Visitors enter along the Gnome Garden (silly but fun), past the stone patio and herb/micro dwarf tomato area into the back garden. Take a surprising stroll into the vegetable garden and through the cattle panel trellises. Tomatoes, Beans, Squash, Onions, Peppers etc. will delight you. In 2024 we grew 56 varieties of Heirloom Tomatoes that we started from seed. Continue along past the Zinnias and take a rest on the corner swing before strolling along the mixed perennial border. Our garden has served as a restful place for friends and family to connect with nature, and has become a gathering place for many events on the deck overlooking the yard. Started with the generosity of friends, our garden will always remain a glorious friendship garden designed to offer food for the eyes, body and soul.

Previous winner of Glen Ellyn’s Most Beautiful Large Residential Garden.
