About

Our garden was founded in our nostalgia for the large backyard gardens of our youth in Michigan and is dedicated to Jonathan’s grandfather, who kept an impressive garden; yielding homemade pickles, peppers, and a special focus on tomatoes. Designed as a kitchen garden, intended to provide daily culinary produce, herbs, and fresh flowers.

The garden is anchored by a mature oak which shades the lettuce varieties in the afternoon. The middle beds are dominated by sun hardy tomatoes and peppers, with the eastern beds of mixed cutting flowers and roses. The perennial quadrants feature fig trees, iris, and Peruvian lily, artichoke, and blueberry. Additionally, apple, apricot, avocado, citrus, kumquat, & a raspberry/blackberry trellis provides a steady supply of fruit.

We were impressed with the work from Pine House Edible Gardens and asked them to also fill out the backyard. The goal was to update the landscape, soften the hardscape structures, and create a link to the kitchen garden.

This garden's estimated size is .25 acres.

This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: There are steps in and around the garden. Ground is mostly decomposed granite gravel.
