About

A 50-acre working-farm-turned- ornamental garden just off a picturesque country road in the woods of western Pennsylvania.

This garden was begun 50 years ago and has been a treasured family center since, being gardened for all seasons. The local waterway, Wolf Creek, meanders through the bottom of the sloped property. The farmhouse and barn are over 150 years old, and were built on the site of an old mill.

This area of Mercer Country has an especially nice growing medium for plants as it is full of glacial sand deposits from the last Ice Age and also includes evidence of Native American settlement.

New sunny meadows gardens, old shady woodland gardens, colorful perennial walks, sandy rock gardens around the house, and established bog gardens

are filled with collections of rare and interesting plants.

Bring your walking shoes to enjoy the flower gardens around the farmhouse, or take a hiking adventure through six acres of field meadow and woodland wildflowers.

The Farm’s owner, Joel Voltz, is a former nursery owner and avid plant collector. He is especially interested in collecting common plants in variegated forms, most of which he finds on The Farm property.

This garden's estimated size is 50 acres.

This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: The garden has grass paths and slopes. There is uneven ground in places. There is a steep driveway.
