About
We welcome you to our storybook gardens, constantly full of flowers and birds and foliage of all shades. We like to describe our aesthetic as English/Japanese fusion, which you’ll notice in not only the plantings but also in the arbors, trellises, obelisks, and raised gardens that we’ve designed and built together.
Roses take center stage here, which you’ll see mixed in within the garden beds, sharing space with other perennials, trees, and shrubs. The roses are by breeders like Meilland, Kordes, David Austin, and Buck, among others. You’ll also see over 30 varieties of clematis, numerous Japanese maple cultivars, several types of hydrangea, and many ornamental trees.
Designing for layers and seasons of abundant bloom and interest is a challenge we relish. We also enjoy planting for birds, incorporating different berry producing shrubs and hiding places that they visit as they fly between feeders and birdbaths.
Our little haven has been a reflection of the joy we have in being outside together, working hard together, and stewarding what we’ve been blessed with.
We’ve incorporated the use of a robotic lawn mower for the grass to give us more time for other things, contribute to the quiet of our home, and keep lawn clippings to a minimum. “Wall-E”, as he’s been dubbed, has somehow turned into the neighborhood mascot of a sort and
passers-by enjoy seeing “him” at work, as do we! As with any garden, we are often editing and creating new and improved points of view within the small landscape, so each season and year is inevitably different than the last.
We hope you experience joy and rest as you visit our private gardens.
This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: Our garden is relatively flat with some hilled ground on the property. The cottage style brick walkway is rustic and slightly uneven.
