The Garden Conservancy Preservation Partner Garden

About

My garden is the soul of a home my father built for me 38 years ago, a sanctuary where learning, experimentation and beauty have taken root side by side.

What began as a modest curved bed outside my kitchen has blossomed into a living tapestry of color, texture, and memory. When I added a pool in 2000, I envisioned not just water, but a world around it, a garden of endless discovery.

Through the Michigan School of Gardening, I learned to shape every inch of earth into purpose and poetry. Each “room” of my garden whispers its own invitation: to wander, to rest, to dream. With every visit, there’s something new to find, a hidden sculpture rescued from an estate sale, a bloom unseen the week before, a fairy garden that delights my youngest guests.

Over the decades, the garden has matured and shifted, as shade deepens and sunlight drifts, guiding my hand toward new possibilities. A vegetable and cutting garden keeps tradition alive, a place where my children first learned to plant, and now my grandchildren learn to wonder. Trees like lace-leaf maples, redbud, hornbeams, lilac and numerous evergreens weave a graceful canopy overhead, their forms harmonizing through the seasons.

This garden, like life itself, continues to evolve—rooted in family, nurtured by curiosity and always reaching toward the light!

This garden's estimated size is .25 acres.
