About

This garden is open twice this year: June 1 and September 20.

Prospect Gardens Westport dates back to the 1812 original Victorian farmhouse and surrounding acres of the Wakeman onion farm. Through a series of abutting property acquisitions over the last twenty-plus years, the property is now a contiguous arboretum-style garden of almost 9 acres featuring planting collections, gardens, open lawns, and winding pathways leading from one area to the next, allowing the visitor a three-dimensional experience of being “in” the gardens. Mature deciduous and evergreen trees create a sweeping canvas and provide a sense of scale, shape, and texture reflective of the owners’ contemporary style and sense of design. Some of the property’s key features include a Mediterranean graveled entry garden, two orchards, a three stone-tiered vegetable garden, berry houses (blueberry, raspberry), beehives, a sunny perennial garden, a shady perennial woodland walk, a conifer collection, numerous flowering shrub and grass borders, a Japanese-inspired meditation garden and maple collection, red-clay tennis court, two pools, containers featuring citrus and cacti, a glasshouse, an internationally renowned sculpture, and a 1-acre perennial/native wildflower meadow. Most recently added is a four-tiered amphitheater with a stone-medallioned stage.

This garden’s estimated size is 8 acres.
