Mai's Garden
Caldwell, NJ
About
In 2022, we purchased our home on an overgrown, under-utilized 3/4 acre, close enough to our adult children for regular grandchildren babysitting, nursery school pickup, and family weekend pool parties.
My organic “farmette” supplies us with a bounty of summer vegetables, as well as strawberries, apples, and blueberries. The grandchildren, who call me “Mai,” are my assistants, planting the seeds, weeding, harvesting, and consuming. My perennial flower garden has an exuberant mix of pollinator-friendly plants, including loads of milkweed and other natives.
If it were up to me, I would eradicate 80% of the turf, but my husband insists on plenty of room for soccer playing. We compromise by overseeding every year with clover rather than grass.
Mai’s Garden is listed on the Pollinator Pathway and as a Certified Wildlife Habitat. Gardening continues to remind me that the most important thing I can cultivate is patience.
This garden's estimated size is 3/4 acre.
This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: There are stepping stones and gravel pathways, as well as turf.
