About
I have been gardening here for seven years from a blank slate. The garden is laid out as a series of unique but linked garden rooms that are connected through pathways. It tries to achieve a balance between formal discipline and a more natural look. It doesn’t draw from one single style but instead seeks to use structures, trees, shrubs, perennials, and bulbs to achieve interest year-round. Annuals are used sparingly in containers and in a few key spots. The gardens range from formal rooms with vistas and focal points, to pollinator-attracting plantings, to an extended woodland created from scratch and still in progress. Throughout, a series of water features creates movement and sound as one strolls through the garden and attracts wildlife (birds, frogs). A key passion is roses, with over 250 roses in the garden, including 40 climbing roses. There are also collections of grasses, Heuchera, and hydrangea. Garden rooms include a pool terrace garden, a white garden, the rose parterre, a rose allée, a Japanese-inspired garden, a woodland walk, and a stylized mini-meadow.
This garden’s estimated size is 1.7 acres.
