Kensington Cloud Forest

The Garden Conservancy Preservation Partner Garden

About

Nestled into the hilltop near Tilden Regional Park, this wild, layered garden celebrates the diverse splendors of cloud forest and high elevation tropical plants, such as tillandsias and neo-tropical blueberries, that thrive in this foggy Berkeley Hills garden.

In the past five years, the gardener has made an oasis filled with bromeliads, palms, tree ferns, and experimental hanging displays of epiphytic plants. Rocky slopes with xeric plantings contrast with the lush, colorful, tropical foliage. Container water gardens and a small pond add sound and life with unusual pond fish, and attract local birds and tree frogs.

This is for the true plant nerds to enjoy naturalistic plantings of unusual plants from around the globe in a horticultural laboratory.

This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: Must walk down sloped driveway and a couple steps to enter garden. Wrap around deck has several step up and step downs. Uneven lava rock steps in back garden to access pond area.
