About
Although you may have visited Janet’s garden on a previous Open Day, her garden always offers something new to behold. As a plant collector and enthusiast, Janet regularly adds, edits, and subtracts. Over the years, she has created many beds consisting of hosta, ferns, and assorted shade-loving plants, many of which are natives. In 2008, due to a microburst, the primary source of shade was lost when the very large white pine came down. Janet left the trunk for the wildlife. The squirrels, birds, and insects have enjoyed this snag. But, thanks to her neighbors’ trees, hers is still primarily a shaded woodland garden receiving no more than three hours of direct sun in any one area. This gardener loves to push the envelope by attempting to grow plants that typically require more sun. It might come as a surprise to see plants that are supposed to require “full sun” thriving in her garden. There are places to sit and view the garden from many angles, encouraging you to try each one so you can enjoy different views and perspectives.
