About

The entire property is always a riot of color; it begins in early spring with tens of thousands of blooming bulbs starting with Eranthis, crocus, snow drops, rock iris, scillas, muscari, tulips, hyacinths, and Chionodoxa; we continue with Fritillaria, Corydalis, Camassia and others. The most notable bulbs are the extensive varieties of daffodils/narcissi that begin with the earliest bloomers and extend to the latest bloomers. To complement the spring bulbs, we have flowering perennials, shrubs, and trees. During the summer and continuing through autumn there is always something blooming; there are many species of perennials, lilies, bulbs, and shrubs, and we have a number of unusual plants that are normally found in other climates. There are three landscaped ponds with waterfalls, the largest has a stream that leads to a quarry type pond. One hundred and twenty tons of quarry rock were used in building the ponds. The ponds are home to koi, frogs, dragonflies, damselflies, and waterlilies. Our gardens are host to butterflies, birds, amphibians, a colony of bats, and other wildlife. The back gardens are interlaced with winding stone paths, where we are continually adding new plantings. For those who enjoy bird watching, we have an assortment of birds that frequent the gardens; in addition to the usual backyard birds, we have Baltimore and orchard orioles, ruby-throated hummingbirds, scarlet tanagers, indigo buntings, kingfisher, white- and redbreasted nuthatches, rose-breasted grosbeak, Tennessee warblers, wrens, tufted titmouse, hawks, turkey vultures, several species of woodpeckers, numerous varieties of finches, along with many other birds that are attracted to the ponds and gardens. We have been a Certified National Wildlife Habitat since 1991 and are a certified Monarch Waystation and a Xerces Society Pollinator Habitat. Come and enjoy all that our gardens and ponds have to offer.

This garden’s estimated size is 3/4 acre.
