Hidden Pocket Garden

Peterborough, NH

The Garden Conservancy Preservation Partner Garden

About

Tucked away on a hill and just seven years in the making, this pocket garden is located on an in-town lot. From our 1850s farmhouse the garden presents a mixed herbaceous border with views of the town and distant hills.

After leaving a well-established garden of 30 years we began again with a blank slate and our basic knowledge of plants and garden design. As a passionate floral designer, perennials and annuals are selected because of our love for bold color and the desire to cut flowers for the house throughout the growing season.

The hill behind the house is filled with hellebore and spring bulbs, making it the focus during the early part of the growing season. The property has boxwood hedges, a walkway with box balls, drought hardy perennials and two patios designed for use at different times of the year.

Despite a rough overall design plan the garden is constantly evolving.

This garden's estimated size is 1/2 acres.

This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: The garden can be entered from the driveway that is a slight hill. This garden features a grassy spaces and easy access.
