Emberborn Garden

Eastford, CT

The Garden Conservancy Preservation Partner Garden

About

Emberborn was created out of a forest of fire-ravaged trees. It took thirty years to clear the fallen chestnuts, oaks and cedars. Today there is a woodland walking path that goes through much of the eight acres.

There are outbuildings built by Bob to match the Gothic Revival house. The landscape was based on the writings of nineteenth century garden writer and designer Alexander Jackson Downing.

There are several gardens within the eight acres including

a kitchen garden, an Italian garden, a dry garden, a wildflower meadow, native shrub borders. The woodland is covered with native blueberries and huckleberries.

There are walking paths throughout. Lots of seats to welcome you to rest. There are fences, bottle trees, a bridge, arbors, lots of birds, butterflies and other wildlife.

This garden's estimated size is 8 acres.

This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: Visitors must park down on the Kennerson Reservoir Road and walk up. But we are happy to drive anyone who needs a lift to the top of the hill. From the road to the house, there are 1,200 feet.
