Distant Hill Gardens–Garden of Michael and Kathy Nerrie
Walpole, NH
About
At Distant Hill Gardens and Nature Trail, we view the entire 155-acre property as a garden, which includes cultivated ornamentals, vegetables, and native plants from our forests, fields, and wetlands.
We use the term ‘Garden’ broadly (beyond the 1 acre cultivated) to describe the growing of any plants and to highlight their importance, cultivation, and role in the landscape to encourage ecological balance between people and the land.
Highlights of Distant Hill Gardens include cultivated gardens with over 500 labeled plant varieties, a raised-bed vegetable garden, a cutting garden, dozens of creative sculptures, and a large stone circle.
Distant Hill Nature Trail offers two miles of accessible, gravel paths, a geology trail with ten geological features with interpretive signs, a boardwalk over a cranberry bog, a pollinator meadow, a children’s outdoor play area, a StoryWalk® children’s book trail, over three miles of hiking trails, and a wheelchair-accessible timber-frame pavilion with picnic tables.
This garden's estimated size is 1 acre.
This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: Our cultivated gardens have grass paths that are wheelchair and stroller accessible, though some stone paths may be difficult to navigate. The nature trail features two miles of smooth, gravel trails that are mostly accessible.
