About

This Digging Deeper is presented in partnership with the Neighborhood Gardens Trust.

Visit the Nicholson Church Lane Community Garden, a 50-year-old food-producing garden in the historic Germantown section of Philadelphia.

Permanently preserved by the Neighborhood Gardens Trust, this shared growing space underwent a major renovation in 2025, designed and constructed by the landscape practice Apiary Studio.

This project focused on retaining the original character of the site and its generous plot dimensions while

addressing the challenges of assuring safe accessibility on terraced ground with steep grade changes. Learn about the collaborative effort with the gardeners to transform this neighborhood anchor to improve its infrastructure, quality of harvest, and community engagement capacity.
