About

Ferns are a fascinating oddity of the gardening world with unique means of reproduction, a genetic mutation that allows them to prosper in the shade, and a beauty that is undiminished by having no flowers.

There are approximately 1,000 ferns that are hardy in North America, and they vary widely, from ferns with simple leaves to ferns with unfathomably intricate geometric designs.

In our program we want to cover the history of ferns, their life cycle, their enormous variety, their use as ground covers and as specimens, and how they are a relatively easy plant to source, grow and transplant.

This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: Part of the garden is on a slope. Walk down the driveway to the breezeway between the house and the garage. This program is not appropriate for those under 15 years of age.
