Digging Deeper: Creating Your Own Woodland Shade and Wildflower Sun Gardens
Stone Ridge, NY
About
Join us as we look at two distinct native gardens at Hortus Arboretum. Although both are fairly young spaces, they will be used as examples of how to create your own woodland shade garden and or a wildflower sun garden using native plants. Learn some of the ways to begin taking over weedy, grassy or turf areas to add sun loving perennials and woody plants that after a few years of minimal intervention will thrive on their own. Also learn how to better use areas that are shaded or in the woods to create biodiverse habitats while growing shade-loving native ephemerals, perennials and woody plants. We will discuss techniques, ways of sourcing materials and discuss strategies for creating aesthetically pleasing environments that function as spaces that support a diverse array of wildlife.
