C's on Calhoun - Sunday, July 26

Brookfield, WI

The Garden Conservancy Preservation Partner Garden

About

Forty-five years ago, three huge willow trees covered the entire front yard of this suburban lot, now bordered by a four lane, busy road.

Today, when you are in the garden, you easily forget that there are cars streaming by within feet of the dense plantings.

Meandering grass paths bring you to garden beds filled with unique varieties of trees, shrubs, perennials, and ground covers gathered over many years. Both sides of the paths are planted with multiple layers of textures and colors in both sunny and shady areas. Heritage plants and standard perennials weave together with natives throughout. The backyard gardens work their way around an in-ground pool with an interesting variety of vines covering the pool enclosure fence.

As in the front, there are paths, both grass and stepping stones, guiding you past an array of garden beds filled with plants from asters to zebra grass.

This garden's estimated size is .3 acre.

This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: Ground is basically level but there are some stepping stone paths with mulch between them. Also, grass paths.
