Becky's Wild and Wonderful Garden
Akron, OH
About
Flowers have been the greatest love of my life! Everywhere I have lived, I made some type of area for flowers.
In 2004, I bought my house in Akron, OH, and started creating what now is my “Wild and Wonderful” garden. It hasn’t been easy, for there were battles to be won, because my lot would flood after a few days of rain, leaving me with dead plants and a swampy backyard.
I did my research and started adding wetland plants to the low lying areas of my yard. The 10 feet tall river birches I planted in 2005 are now 100 feet tall! I added in winterberry hollies, button bushes, and viburnums. I also brought in sand and gravel to help reduce the flooding and make the back areas drier. I’ve always admired the English cottage gardens and so I’ve tried to create my own little cottage gardens.
My gardens have many native perennial flowers. I have a collection of tropical and other annual plants to create a layered garden from spring until fall.
This garden's estimated size is 5,000 sq. ft.
This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: Visitors should wear comfortable shoes, because they will be walking on gravel paths. In the event of rain, please wear water proof footwear due to some pooling of water.
