Barbara & Andrew Riley
Pomfret, CT
About
A stream meanders through the backyard leading to three ponds with bridges, dams, and small waterfalls. Originally landscaped by Fredrick Law Olmsted and Company.
Ulysses S. Grant was the guest of honor here for a picnic in 1870. There are also four trees listed on “Notable Trees of Connecticut” website: Largest Tulip, Cypress, and Hinoki in Connecticut, and second largest weeping beech. Alas, one beech is in the process of dying from a virus. The garden has twenty specimen trees of various varieties. It is a work in progress!
