Sunday, June 1 Open Day at Shoma’s Garden in the City
This urban garden in the heart of Jamaica Plain feels like a hidden oasis. Three levels of landscaping in the back includes a kitchen garden with raised beds, a sunny pollinator garden, and a large shady woodland garden. Multiple trees, including river birch, elm, ironwood, and specimen beech and wingnut trees create privacy, shade, and a haven for birds. The garden is four years old and began as a long grass slope covered in invasive plants and overgrown forsythia. It has since been transformed with many native shrubs, grasses, perennials, and groundcovers, creating a garden that is full of life and abuzz with pollinators.
This garden’s estimated size is 1/4 acre.
