Saturday, June 21 Open Day at Garden of Robert Smith

When the current owner purchased this property in 2003, the house, built in 1723, hadn't been lived in for more than 10 years; the grounds were unwalkable, overgrown with vines, poison ivy and wild roses. What lay underneath were gardens created years earlier by Allen Haskell, in an idyllic setting framed by a tree-studded hilltop and a winding brook, inspiration for the gardens and specimen trees the new owner has added over the last 20-plus years. The latest addition is a Chinese garden pavilion, with magnificent antique Chinese doors.
