About
The Gardens at Sands Light are located on the waterfront estate of a former Vanderbilt mansion and nineteenth- century lighthouse and cottage, providing a unique and dramatic setting.
The French château-inspired residence provides a grand centerpiece for the 4-acre garden, the creation of a passionate plantswoman and artist. The garden will take you from a mixed woodland and stream to a beachside marble temple, large shrub and perennial borders to formal knot garden, and cactus garden onto a large private beach.
A strolling garden, designed to provide privacy and to entertain, joins quiet alcoves as well as spacious terraces and outdoor living arrangements. A lush summer display is achieved by the addition of more than 100 containers, sporting vibrant colored annuals and large tropicals.
The extensive collections include specimen plants with unique habits and variegations, orchids, and rare tropical plants, as well as peacocks, koi, and tortoises.
