Colonial Williamsburg’s Revived Garden

It’s an exceptional time for gardening at Colonial Williamsburg. Although gardens have always been key to America’s largest outdoor history museum, they’re now moving to the fore of public interpretation thanks to two exciting projects. Spend the day with Colonial Williamsburg’s Associate Vice President of Historic Resources Jack Gary learning about the archaeological excavation of the Custis Garden, a magnificent Baroque style garden from the eighteenth century, and the restoration of the iconic Colonial Revival Governor’s Palace Gardens. Guests will also tour the new Campbell Archeology Center and the John D. Rockefeller Jr. Library to view archival materials relating to the gardens, including original design drawings by Arthur Shurcliff for the Governor’s Palace Gardens. The program includes lunch at Colonial Williamsburg.

The program will run from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. - tour of the Colin G. and Nancy N. Campbell Archaeology Center and the Custis Garden excavation

12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. - lunch (included in the program)

1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. - Tour the garden restoration project at the Governor’s Place Garden and the archives at John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Library.
