Yaun Farm
Youngsville, NY
Woodland/shade garden, Fruit/vegetables, Garden structure/sculpture, Meadow, Scenic view, Substantial native plants
Yaun Farm was the weekend home of Tony Lepsis and Brian Whitney, owners of North Hill Garden design on Long Island. The first few years were consumed with the restoration of the farm house and gardens of 20 acres, tree removals and selective pruning, opening up a vista to the pond and the hemlock and laurel woods. All new plantings revolved around the deer, with mixed borders of spirea boxwood and calycanthus shrubs, planted with epimediums, hellebores, hardy geraniums, and astilbes. Hostas and shade perennials are protected by the house and a six-foot fieldstone wall. The old lilacs created garden rooms for the summer hydrangeas. The vegetable garden is located on the old barn foundation. The eight-foot stone walls are the backdrop for the raised beds. Trails take you up the hill, past native ferns to the fire pit with views of the mountains.
This garden's estimated size is 20 acres.
