Gardening with native plants has been growing in popularity as gardeners have become educated about the needs and challenges of pollinators and the importance of restoring our ecological web for the healthy future of the planet. Visit Sally Edgett's Garden Gone Wild and learn how to successfully incorporate native plants into your garden depending on soil type, moisture, space available, light requirements and other key factors.
Sally lives in a 150-year-old farmhouse built when Fox Point, its dense forests removed, was farm country. She took continuing education classes with Darrel Morrison, referred to as "the elder stateman of the ecological landscaping movement" by the New York Times, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the 1970s, building on a childhood fascination with "wild flowers". She has put her knowledge to work over the last 40 years by developing a border with wet and mesic prairie plants ranging in height from two feet to eleven feet, as well as cultivating other native plants throughout her garden, including a 40-foot-tall dutchman's pipe vine which is colonizing a nearby Norway spruce. Join Sally and discover the wealth of native plants that can enrich your garden, provide habitat for butterflies, bees, and other pollinators, and help restore the ecology of your landscape. Sally also has a wealth of non-native plants and will discuss some of her favorites and how to incorporate natives into an established landscape.
