Digging Deeper: A Chef's Garden in the Catskills - CANCELED

After reviewing current news about the spreading of coronavirus (COVID-19), we regret to inform you that we have canceled this event. This does not directly affect other events of the Garden Conservancy.

Melding gardening culture and farm strategy and making it all work on an exposed site at an elevation of 1,950 feet is the job of Scribner’s Catskill Lodge staff horticulturist, Andrew Koehn. Learn why Andrew selected the varieties he did for 2020, and get firsthand insights into scheduling crops, organic growing techniques, soil considerations, and the garden’s relationship with a professional kitchen. Andrew will discuss choices made—the good, the bad, and the beautiful—in creating this restaurant kitchen garden. Scribner’s Catskill Lodge in Hunter, NY, boasts a 6,000-square-foot formal kitchen garden with panoramic views of the Catskills. Providing vegetables and herbs for the inn’s locavore restaurant, varieties grown in this luxe space are carefully selected to combine peak flavor with exceptional visual appeal. The hotel’s chef, Alex Napolitano, will join the group to discuss his collaboration with Andrew and serve samples of a seasonal specialty prepared with garden-fresh ingredients.
