Digging Deeper: Behind the Curtain: A First Look at a Collector’s Garden

Garden of Matt Mattus and Joe Philip

Sat, Jun 6, 2020
4:00 PM

Join Matt Mattus, horticulturist, designer, author, and serious plant collector, for the first behind-the-scenes tour of his 1.5-acre urban garden, which has been in his family for more than 100 years. While he can often be found hunting for plants in far-flung botanical hotspots (most recently Yunnan and the Eastern Himalaya), this is his living laboratory, studio, and set. Here, in the garden where he grew up, Matt trials plants and experiments with growing techniques, all of which feature in his award-winning blog, Growing with Plants, considered an influential source of inspiration and guidance for more than fifteen years. This is also where he developed the material for his books, Mastering the Art of Vegetable Gardening (December 2018) and the brand new Mastering the Art of Flower Gardening (March 2020).
