1:00 PM- 3:00 PM
On October 13, for the first time ever, you are invited to not only experience Linda Allard’s Highmeadows on a peak fall afternoon, but also gain insight into the personal vision that has sparked the creation of such a memorable and welcoming landscape. Highmeadows has been long a favorite with our Open Days visitors; now you can join an intimate group to hear the inside story about the making and the tending of the garden from its creator.
Linda Allard, retired fashion designer/design director for Ellen Tracy, will discuss the design ideas and choice plants that make the autumn here so spectacular, as well as some of the sustainable techniques used to keep her garden so healthy and lush. Fruit trees framing a golden meadow will be laden with their colorful bounty, the layered plantings in the woodland garden will be decked in jewel tones, the enclosed potager will be filled with winter crops, and sweeping vistas of the Litchfield Hills will form a blazing backdrop to the entire property. To make the day more festive, wine and light hors d'oeuvres will be served.
Registration is required and space is limited.
