The Tortuga Garden
Austin, TX
The Tortuga Garden, designed by ADLA Studio, is intended to complement the modern architecture and the site location. Located on the banks of Lake Austin, the landscape accentuates the microenvironments created by the water and the two mature cypress trees on the site. Native and adaptive shade plantings were utilized in the entry courtyard under the huge Taxodium disticum, while the rear utilizes native perennials to provide a lush feel without taking away from the views of the lake. Clean, modern lines are contrasted with playful plantings that help soften and ground the extensive steel work throughout the property. This aesthetic is repeated in the animal courtyard, which provides a great space for the family dogs and tortoise. The garden feels refined without ostentatiousness.
