The Douglas Garden

All gardens are personal, and mine is no exception. I tried to respect what Nature originally provided and built on this existing topography and light exposure with mostly perennial plant material while reigning in "gotta have" tendencies (aka mistakes). Large swaths of tall phlox, in an array of colors, occupy the sunny area, while many Hs-hydrangeas, hostas, and hellebores-form the green-on-green shady borders. Throughout, swaying Thalictrum is my favorite plant for adding height and gentle movement and energy to the mix. As you walk the gravel path dotted with 40-foot-high old growth trees, note the large rectangular slab with an embedded fossil that becomes a bench, literary and whimsical quotes on upright boulders, and even a "sculpted" cat and kitten gifted to me by nature. The plant material plus these added elements will hopefully add to your enjoying the visit.
