Hyland/Wente Garden

Hyland/Wente Garden

Millerton, NY
Open Days, Meadow, Water feature

The property consists of a modern barn-like structure located on rolling farmland overlooking Indian Mountain and Indian Lake. The house has eight doors leading to a series of distinct gardens, intentionally blurring house and gardens. Emphasizing grasses, textures, colors, and plant combinations, the gardens blend with surrounding wildflower meadows and are designed for interest in all seasons. There is a rill with bamboo, a secret garden, a pool garden, a garden of solar panels, and a wooded walk down to Indian Lake.

To take a look at the garden, watch this video from a previous Open Day http://youtu.be/0Z2wBzmBKTM

Directions: From Route 22 in Amenia, drive north 4.1 miles to Coleman Station Road/Route 58, and turn right. Go 1.1 miles, crossing Harlem Valley Rail Trail. Turn left immediately onto Reagan Road, which, after 0.8 mile, dead-ends into Taylor Road. Turn right and go 0.1 mile up hill, and driveway, #95, is on left.

From clock tower in Sharon, Connecticut, drive north on Route 41 along Sharon Green. Turn left onto Route 361 West at stop sign 0.1 mile in middle of Sharon Green, then make an immediate right, just after fire station, remaining on Route 361/Millerton Road. Follow for 2.1 miles and turn left onto Dakin Road (at a sign for Mole’s Hill Farm Stables). Go up hill on Dakin Road, which becomes Taylor Road 0.4 mile from Route 361; #95 is on right.

Please note that the map shows 95 Taylor Road on the west side of Barney Drive but the property is at the top of the hill. There is no house or property except cornfields where the map currently indicates 95 Taylor Road is.
