Garden at Risk: Enid Haupt Garden at Smithsonian

In October 2016, the Garden Conservancy joined a growing number of organizations in supporting the preservation of the Enid A. Haupt Garden at the Smithsonian Institution in the heart of the nation’s capital.

In a letter addressed to David J. Skorton, Secretary, Smithsonian Institution, the Garden Conservancy states that "We join the Committee of 100 and the Garden Club of America, National Trust for Historic Preservation, President’s Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, and many other concerned organizations and individuals in requesting that alternatives that do not require destroying the Haupt Garden be seriously considered."

In January 2017, we received a letter from Secretary Skorton, explaining that new alternatives are now being explored.

In 2018, revised plans that preserved the Haupt Garden were reported.
