Tom Coward
The Restoration of Gravetye Manor
Tom Coward is the head gardener at Gravetye Manor in Sussex, England. Created in the late 1880s by legendary gardener William Robinson, the Gardens at Gravetye Manor inspired Robinson to write some of the most influential gardening books of his generation. Coward will discuss efforts to restore the garden to its former glory while also moving it forward into the modern age.

Jacqueline van der Kloet
Magical Mixes
Jacqueline van der Kloet is a Dutch landscape designer known worldwide for her innovative designs and her artful combinations of perennials and bulbs in the garden. She has worked on projects ranging from private gardens and city parks to national and international flower exhibitions and is the author of nine books, including Kleur je Tuin (Colour Your Garden). Jacqueline will highlight her projects and discuss plant combinations, plant sequences, and maintenance.

Andrew Bunting
Plant Lover's Guide to Magnolias
As Assistant Director and Director of Collections at Chicago Botanic Garden, Andrew Bunting oversees the content of the garden's permanent plant collection. He is past president of the Magnolia Society International and author of the award-winning Plant Lover's Guide to Magnolias. In this talk, Bunting will describe the breadth of magnolias that can be cultivated in the northeast and discuss how to choose, grow, and display magnolias in your garden.

Jane Garmey
A Sense of Place
Jane Garmey is the author of Private Gardens of the Hudson Valley and Private Gardens of Connecticut and editor of The Writer in the Garden. She has written for the New York Times and Wall Street Journal, among other publications. Her latest book, City Green, will be published next year. Garmey will discuss a wide variety of private gardens, focusing on the challenges of those who set out to make their own gardens.

The symposium will be moderated by Todd Forrest of the New York Botanical Garden

$200 – General admission
$500 – Patron; includes invitation to the speaker dinner on Friday evening at Hollister House Garden and reserved seating at the symposium. ($200 of this is tax deductible)
