The Alliance for Historic Landscape Preservation
The Alliance for Historic Landscape Preservation is an inter-disciplinary professional organization which provides a forum for communication and exchange of information among its members. It is dedicated to the preservation and conservation of historic landscapes in all their variety, from formal gardens and public parks to rural expanses.
American Horticultural Society
The American Horticultural Society recognizes and promotes excellence in American horticulture. Its mission is to educate and inspire people of all ages to become successful and environmentally responsible gardeners by advancing the art and science of horticulture.
American Public Garden Association
The American Public Gardens Association is committed to increasing the knowledge of public garden professionals in North America through information sharing, professional development, networking, public awareness, and research and by supporting their work and achievements in horticultural display, education, research, and plant conservation.
American Society of Landscape Architects
The American Society of Landscape Architects promotes the landscape architecture profession and advances the practice through advocacy, education, communication, and fellowship.
The Archives of American Gardens currently documents gardens throughout the United States from 1870s to the present. The bulk of the Archives consist of photographic images, and it also includes a wide range of written documentation, drawings, plans and business files.
Catalog of Landscape Records in the United States
The Catalog of Landscape Records in the United States collects, organizes, and makes available information about the location and content of archival collections of landscape records, planting plants, maps, correspondence, photographs, and personal and business archives of individuals and firms relating to the American landscape.
The Cultural Landscape Foundation
The Cultural Landscape Foundation is dedicated to increasing the public's awareness and understanding of the importance and irreplaceable legacy of Americas cultural landscapes.
The Land Trust Alliance promotes voluntary private land conservation.
Library of American Landscape History
The Library of American Landscape History is a nonprofit organization that produces books and exhibitions about North American landscape history.
National Association for Olmsted Parks
The National Association for Olmsted Parks is a coalition of design and preservation professionals, historic property and park managers, scholars, municipal officials, citizen activists and representatives of numerous Olmsted organizations around the United States concerned with the legacy of landscape work left by Frederick Law Olmsted Sr. and the firm continued by his sons, Olmsted Brothers Landscape Architects.
As the organization that operates the national parks, the National Park Service includes on its web site historic aspects of parks, a natural resources guide, and Park Smart, an education and interpretation program.
The National Park Service oversees the Historic American Landscapes Survey, which records historic landscapes in the United States and its territories through measured drawings and interpretive drawings, written histories, and large-format black and white photographs and color photographs.
The Historic Landscape Initiative
The Historic Landscape Initiative promotes responsible preservation practices that protect designated landscapes, such as parks and gardens, as well as vernacular historic landscapes, such as farms and industrial sites. It develops and disseminates guidelines for significant historic landscape preservation, organizes and conducts training symposia and workshops, and provides technical assistance for significant properties and districts.
National Center for Preservation Technology and Training
The National Center for Preservation Technology and Training, a research division of the National Park Service, advances the use of science and technology in the field of historic preservation. Working in the fields of archeology, architecture, landscape architecture and materials conservation, the National Center accomplishes its mission through training, education, research, technology transfer and partnerships.
National History Landmarks Program
The National Historic Landmarks Program nominates new landmarks and provides assistance to existing landmarks.
National Register of Historic Places
The National Register of Historic Places is the nation’s official list of cultural resources worthy of preservation. The National Register is part of a national program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect historic and archeological resources.
The National Park Service maintains the Olmstead Center for Landscape Preservation, which promotes stewardship of significant landscapes through research, planning, and sustainable preservation maintenance.
The Federal Save America’s Treasures program is one of the largest grant programs for the protection of national cultural heritage. It is administered by the National Park Service in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities.
Stonecrop Gardens
Stonecrop, originally the private gardens of Frank and Anne Cabot in Cold Spring, New York, now offers the public extensive plant collections and display gardens that demonstrate what can be achieved by horticultural enthusiasts, and serves as an educational resource for the lower Hudson Valley.
The Trust for Public Land protects land in and around cities and pioneers new land conservation techniques.

Advisory Council on Historic Preservation
The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation promotes the preservation, enhancement, and productive use of the nation’s historic resources, and advises the President and Congress on national historic preservation policy.
American Association of Museums
The American Association of Museums represents museums, including botanical gardens, arboretums, and historic sites, and professionals and nonpaid staff who work for and with museums. It administers a museum assessment program, professional seminars and a technical information service.
American Association of State and Local History
The American Association for State and Local History provides leadership and support for its individual or institutional members and works to preserve, interpret, and promote state and local history.
Association for Preservation Technology International
The Association for Preservation Technology International is a cross-disciplinary organization dedicated to promoting the best technology for conserving historic structures and their settings.
The Institute of Museum and Library Services
The Institute of Museum and Library Services is an independent agency that supports a wide range of museums including art and history, science and zoos, and all types of libraries and archives.
International Council on Monuments and Sites, U.S. Committee
The International Council on Monuments and Sites is an international non-governmental organization of professionals dedicated to the conservation of the world's historic monuments and sites.
This online resource for historic preservation, building restoration and cultural resource management in the United States & Canada is designed to foster the preservation of historic buildings, historic downtowns and neighborhoods, cultural resources and to promote heritage tourism by facilitating communication among historic preservation professionals and the general public.
The National Endowment for the Arts
The National Endowment for the Arts fosters an appreciation of the nation’s artistic accomplishments as well as supporting creativity and community spirit. The site is an online resource of federal funding opportunities available for arts initiatives through national, state, and local funding programs.
The National Endowment for the Humanities
The National Endowment for the Humanities is an independent grant-making agency of the United States government dedicated to supporting research, education, public programs and preservation in the humanities. The site provides grant deadlines and guidelines, instructions, and a listing of NEH-supported projects.
The National Trust for Historic Preservation
The National Trust for Historic Preservation is a private, nonprofit organization that fights to save historic buildings and the neighborhoods and landscapes they anchor. It revitalizes communities through education and advocacy. The NTHP administers the Save America’s Treasures program a public-private partnership that includes the NTHP, the National Park Service, and the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities and the federal cultural agencies.
