Gardens, Golf & George

The George W. Rowe Education Fund
In memory of longtime national board member, friend, and leader George Rowe, the Garden Conservancy is proud to establish the George W. Rowe Education Fund. As the founding chairman of the Conservancy's West Coast Council, formed to nurture and support preservation efforts in California, George's vision and dedication to the Conservancy were inspiring. Key to these preservation efforts, George believed, was a robust education program of symposia, lectures, workshops, and garden exploration. The new fund will support and expand the Conservancy's well-regarded educational programs on the West Coast, featuring the best thinkers and practioners in landscape architecture, garden design, horticulture, and preservation. These programs will continue to foster the broader understanding and appreciation of the Garden Conservancy's preservation and restoration work across North America. In addition to providing significant ongoing annual support to the West Coast programs, the George W. Rowe Education Fund will help sustain the Garden Conservancy's leadership in preserving America's exceptional gardens and horticultural heritage.
George W. Rowe is remembered by the Garden Conservancy for his wisdom, his practical guidance, and, most of all, his ready smile and comment at the end of every conversation, "Terrific!"
George became involved with the Garden Conservancy in our very early days, in the early 1990s. He joined the Conservancy's board of directors in 2003, became chairman of the West Coast Council, and was a leader in the Conservancy's involvement in restoring the Gardens of Alcatraz, among other projects.
The Garden Conservancy gratefully acknowledges the hundreds of contributors who made Gardens, Golf & George a resounding success. Thanks to your generosity the Garden Conservancy will establish the George W. Rowe Education Fund, supporting education program excellence on the West Coast.
